Handwriting

There are several different handwriting curricula to choose from. Here are some of our favorites:

Reason for Writing
K-6
These books are made to teach handwriting through the Word of God.. There are daily lessons for four days and then a scripture is written on one of the "border pages" (artistically decorated writing-lined pages). If you wish to complete handwriting in 3 "books" days, then double up on the daily lessons (two lessons are on one page).

Italic Handwriting
Levels A-Kindergarten to G-6th /Adult
This is a new and very readable style of handwriting. The letters are not "loopy" like traditional cursive. The tall letters have straight lines. This looks a little like an adult's half-print, half-cursive style of writing. This is excellent for the struggling student who may not seem ready for the traditional cursive style. Note: We do not recommend switching a student's handwriting as a rule. If cursive has been taught in the traditional form, it is generally best to stay with it.

Handwriting Journals
We have a great set of handwriting journals available from first grade through Advanced. The First Primary book has 1-inch lines with a dotted midline for beginning writers. The Second Primary book has lines that are about 3/4-inch, also with a midline. The Third Primary book has 1/2-inch lines, this is the book we recommend (and sell out of) the most often. Lastly, the Advanced Handwriting book also has 1/2-inch lines, however the midline is closer to the bottom of the line for cursive handwriting.
