
A Walk Through a Spirit-Filled Home School Day
In nearly every article I write and workshop I give, I am usually telling home schoolers to center home schooling and family lifestyles around the Lordship of Jesus Christ. I suddenly realized I have never shared about how to do that or what a "spirit-led school day" might look like.
A Spirit-Filled Life
To become increasingly "Full of the Spirit," simply ask God for more of His Holy Spirit in your life and receive His presence, wisdom, anointing and gifting with an open heart by faith. The primary goal of all Bible-believing Christians is to allow their human spirits to absorb as much of God's Holy Spirit as possible. This empowers us to become the people God has called us to be. As growing Christians, Peter encourages us to:..."crave spiritual milk so that by it you may grow up in your salvation now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." My prayer today is that we would crave more and more spiritual things of God. This hunger will lead to an openness before the Lord to receive all that He has for us. We don't want to be stuck in our selfish and prideful flesh, we want to be spirit-led, water-walking saints of the Living God! Amen? As Paul prayed for the Ephesians, I pray also with you:
3:14 That He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. God, I pray that we would be strong, to walk in the fullness of your Holy Spirit power. I pray that we will become open to You, Jesus, as you dwell in our hearts through faith. Help us, Lord, to have faith to open our eyes to see You working in us. Open our ears so that we can hear your still small voice in our hearts and receive an extra fullness of Your Holy Spirit today.
3:17b And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ...Lord, I pray that we will begin to grasp the enormity of your love for us, that as we become more open to You, Lord, we will sense your awesome presence like waves of a giant ocean. I pray that we might perceive the breadth of your hand across the entire universe... I pray for revelation of Your glory from the tiniest microscopic particle to the grandest astronomical creation. We glorify your name in all the earth. Fill us with your holy and awesome presence. Lord. Saturate every part of us and help us to receive all that you have today.
3:20 Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen
Awaken: Thank God for the goodness of life for a new day. Praise him that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and for the dawn of a new day upon the earth.
Personal prayer time: Slip away with Bible and a notebook, and seek the Father's heart as you examine His Word. Take time to let the verses sink in, search for the Lord's meaning for you personally. Write your life questions, note God's answers. Pray through the acrostic A-C-T-S with your own words:
Adoration and Praise
Our Father Who art in heave, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Confess your sins..
and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Thank God for His Goodness and provision
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Supplication: Ask God for His help
Give us this day our daily bread ... and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Dressed and Ready: Seek the Lord's direction in little things such as choices of clothing. You'll be glad you did!
Breakfast and Meals: Join your family in thanks and blessing for the meal and the day. Ask God to give you open hearts and minds to hear His counsel and advice today.
Housework and Chores: Seek the Lord's priorities, speak gratitude and blessing over the days duties. ("Thank you, Lord for my home, help it to reflect your love and grace today. Bless my children today. Thank you for the privilege of having my family home with me today...") Stand in your God-given authority and command any demonic distractions, discouragements and destructive spirits to leave your home in Jesus' name. Plead the Blood of Jesus over your home.
School time: Begin with a devotional/Bible lesson. Teach God's truth to your children. Complete the lesson with prayer for personal life application. Bless children individually in today's studies and activities as well as God's purpose and plan for their lives.
Pray/Praise through the school day: Ask the Lord for His direction during moments of confusion, give Him the glory for moments of victory. Stop and pray with your children whenever things are going awry. Pray for understanding and forgiveness. Ask God for the Fruits of the Holy Spirit to manifest in all of your lives. (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self Control)
Seek Wisdom: Ask God to direct your choices in shows you watch, friendships you cultivate, foods you eat, books you read, and time you spend. Pray for God's priorities as you move through your day Ask God for His direction in each area of your life: Financial, Household, Physical, Recreational, Nutritional.. Ask and believe that God is directing you.
Pray without Ceasing: As you move through your day, toss little "popcorn prayers" to heaven for your loved ones. Lift those you love before the Father as they come to mind. Especially pray for your spouse. Pray often and bless your spouse any way that you can.
Give Thanks: Conclude each day with an attitude of gratitude before sleeping. Try to list three or more things about each day for which you are thankful.
